CR125 Sitting for nine years, what to do?

I was given a 1990 CR125 that has been sitting for about nine years. The stator went bad, the guys brother was going to replace it, lost the cover & never got another one. They drained all the oil & gas out of the bike not long after that happened & put it in a barn, but without the spark plug & nothing covering the hole. I was just going to tear it down & rebuild the whole engine, but a couple people have told me that I should just try to run it once the cover comes in. What should I do to prep it for best results?
