Going to NYC on July 4th, need ideas for clubbing hot spots?

Going to NYC on July 4th and need ideas for clubbing hot spots, (gay & str8). We're staying in East Midtown. Clubs that plays hip-hop or house is what we R looking for. Also, how's the cover charge for most clubs in NYC? (I never been, this will be my first time!). Any advice will help, thanks!!
