Why did god create mankind?

I ask this question because it is quite a incognito the reason why god created us, humans. Was it just so he (uming tha it is a he) could glorify himself? Does he have this level of vanity? I cannot find any reason besides vanity for god creating mankind. Write your comments on the issue.
